Welcoming and Integrating the Disabled

Everyone has a disability; everyone needs God, says Nick Vujicic, an evangelist with no arms or legs who preaches to packed churches around the globe. However, few U.S. churches have kept pace with America’s workplace in welcoming and accommodating people with disabilities, partly because so many feel awkward around people with disabilities, according to author Mark Pinsky, who has written about places of worship and the disabled. In an 8 1/2-minute video news story about the expanding role of the disabled in American religious life  prepared for Religion & Ethics NewsWeekly, a source for cutting-edge religion news and analysis, correspondent Lucky Severson explores this issue and the impact Pinsky’s book, Amazing Gifts, can have on faithful people and communities. Use it to initiate conversations in your faith community.
