Tools For Religious Educators

Effective teaching of theological concepts, values and perspectives, and helpful use of contemporary media tools can be challenging. To help new teachers and others involved in communicating religious material in the contemporary context, the Wabash Center for Technology and Learning in Theology and Religion has posted a resource page featuring recent books and articles, as well as effective websites that offer guidance on teaching and learning in theological education. Among the many topics  are: insight into research that improves the teacher's understanding of social media in classrooms; a guide for promoting honest and informed conversations about race and racism, a blog for teachers in Christian seminaries and theological schools focused on great teaching, an examination of how Jesuit universities promote transformative student life experiences, perspective and tool for teaching adult learners, a book of perspectives on women students who are also mothers and how the process of education impacts upon their families, and models of responding to student writers. A couple resources approach the topic from outside perspectives. One promotes structuring classroom time to focus on active, non-technology enhanced learning, while utilizing tech to continue the lesson beyond the classroom. Another illustrates the traditional Jewish practice of teaching through conversation between a teacher and a student. New and experienced teachers will find a wide range of stimulating and inspiring sources of guidance and perspective on the craft of teaching religion to older students and adult learners.
