Strategies for Leadership Development on a Budget

Jesus says that where your treasure is, there is where your heart will be. However, even though leaders of Christian institutions say they treasure leadership development, according to Laura Everett in an article written for Faith & Leadership, an online service of Duke Divinity School, they typically set aside neither funds nor time for the task. One problem is funding. Church leadership at all levels finds it difficult to prioritize spending when financial resources are stagnant or in decline.

So how can you develop leaders with little or no funding? Everett, executive director of the Massachusetts Council of Churches, says her organization is “trying low-budget leadership development, improvising how, when and where we develop the people who make this organization work.” Over time, she has identified ten strategies to fund leadership development on the cheap.
