The Role of Institutions in Mediating Salvation

In contemporary society, people experience a sense of ambivalence about institutions. Recognizing the good institutions do, some people pray that God will save and preserve institutions. Other people, realizing how much institutions seem focused only on themselves, are inclined to pray that God will save us from institutions. A third group asks that God save us through God’s own institutions, recognizing that it is through holy institutions that salvation is mediated.
