Resource: Orthodox Reality in America

Overall, just .34 percent of the U.S. population are members of one or another Orthodox Christian Church. The largest concentration is in Alaska, where Orthodox Christians make up 1.93 percent of the state’s population. These are just two findings culled from five surveys of U.S. Orthodox Christianity conducted between 2007 and 2010 and presented in a slide show created by Alexie Krindatch, research coordinator for the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of North and Central America. The 44-slide presentation is archived for download on the Research on Orthodox Christian Communities web page of the Hartford Institute for Religion Research, which also contains additional research, articles, and commentary on the growth of the U.S. Orthodox Christian church, which in some communities has doubled in size in the last decade. The Hartford Institute conducts and disseminates rigorous research into current and emerging issues related to the practice of faith in America. Many of its research findings, including summaries, commentary and articles, are available for free download at the Hartford Institute's website.
