Keeping youth involved is key to deepening their faith

The best spiritual leadership of teens comes from teens themselves. A great way to create a successful youth program is to put together a small team of teen leaders from your youth who are already involved in worship, and encourage them by engaging them in active spiritual leadership. Of course, an adult leader and mentor is also needed, but teens understand other teens and how best to appeal to them, facilitating honest discussion and a deeper faith and sense of excitement about their church.

An article written for the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship, which promotes worship renewal in American congregations, offers practical guidance on  how to develop an effective team of teenage spiritual leaders, and links to two additional articles that help deepen understanding about teen faith formation and discuss how to move the new leadership team forward once it has been assembled.
