Isaiah 40:31: God, Sports and the Tebow Text

Former Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow is openly Christian. One of his favorite texts is Isaiah 40:31: “ … but those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength, they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.” Eric Barreto, assistant professor of New Testament at Luther Seminary, reflects on the passage in both its historic and contemporary contexts and on the way Tebow embodies his faith on the field, in "The Tebow Text," a three-minute video produced by Odyssey Networks, an interfaith consortium that uses electronic media to enrich spiritual life and build bridges of understanding among people of faith. Also, read “On Faith and Football,” a reflection on Isaiah 40:31 by Kathryn Schifferdecker, associate professor of Old Testament at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn.
