This technical paper shows that a church’s sense of “who we are and what we are about” is an important predictor of identity and of higher levels of spiritual vitality, but not of community involvement. Theology, age profile, and worshipper involvement are also related to a more future-directed identity, as discovered in the insightful U.S. Congregational Life Survey.
