Religion News Service

Religion News Service welcomes Bob Smietana as editor-in-chief:  Religion News Service (RNS), an independent, nonprofit source of global news on religion, spirituality, culture and ethics, has appointed Bob Smietana as its new editor-in-chief.

Religion News Service, the nation's only nationally syndicated religion wire, is a source of in-depth, non-sectarian news about religion, spirituality and ideas. Its aim is to promote civic engagement and discourse on matters relating to belief and religion by informing and challenging readers, out of a conviction that religious literacy is a necessary component of effective citizenship. RNS does not endorse or promote any religion, creed or set of beliefs or non-beliefs. It is a secular organization committed to an ongoing conversation about the role of religion in public life.

The service has about 200 subscribers that include websites, newspapers, PR firms and churches. About half are secular news operations, such as HuffingtonPost; half are religious, such as The Christian Century. It also has 26,500 Twitter followers worldwide, with 200 added every day.
