The Power of Silence

Silence is more than the absence of sound. It encompasses personal internal stillness. In the midst of the busyness of daily life, the ability to find internal stillness makes it possible to experience again the abiding and gracious presence of God. In an article published by the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship, Joyce Ann Zimmerman discusses how silence during worship has the power to help us recollect our reasons for worshipping, and even to hear the voice of God addressing us. Zimmerman suggests that learning how to be truly silent, itself, is an act of worship.
