Christians, Culture and Power
Christians are very hesitant to talk about power, imagining power negatively as coercion. But power as the ability to create new goods is a part of the God-given nature of human beings and the world. We are all meant to have such power, so the question for Christians is how we can help restore power to those who have less than they are intended to have. In this 8-minute video interview, Andy Crouch discusses cultural power as something different from political power, and argues that Christians could benefit from focusing more on cultural, creative power and less on political, coercive power. The essay is available free on the website of Faith & Leadership, an offering of Leadership Education at Duke Divinity.
