Over the last century, the number and percentage of Americans with a college education has skyrocketed. In the same time period, the role and place of religion in higher education has changed dramatically. In this study guide, Stephen R. Haynes provides a path through an extensive literature of research and analysis that chronicles this transformation and illuminates its meaning and consequences for the church and the academy. Haynes is associate professor at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, and the founding director of the Rhodes Consultation on the Future of the Church-Related College.
