Online Academy of Preaching Offers Worship Guidance to Pastors

The Center for Pastoral Excellence and the Christian Theological Seminary offer an online program to promote excellence in preaching and worship by supporting the deepening of faith and biblical practices.

The Academy of Preaching and Celebration offers sermons, lectures, teaching tools, blogs and resources for clergy family. Headed up by Frank A. Thomas, scholar and professor of homiletics at CTS, the purpose of the academy is to draw on the genius of the African-American tradition to transform the church and world. The intention, however, is not to provide a resource limited to African Americans, but to draw on the riches of the Historic Black Church in the United States to help church people and leaders of all races, traditions and backgrounds find worship renewal through effective preaching and celebratory worship. In addition, because the academy understands that clergy families are often sacrificed to the needs of the ministry and church membership, it has created a special emphasis on clergy family support through the work of the academy’s associate director, the Rev. Dr. Joyce Thomas. For more on preaching and sermon excellence, see our feature article, “Best Resources for Sermons.”
