Our Affiliate Krista Tippett Receives Humanities Award

President Obama presented the 2013 National Humanities Medals to nine individuals and one organization recently for their outstanding achievements in history, cultural studies, filmmaking, cultural commentary and historic preservation. Recipients include Krista Tippett, author and radio host of On Being, one of our affiliate organizations whose resources, events and offerings are regularly posted on this website. The National Humanities Medal honors individuals or groups whose work has deepened the nation’s understanding of the humanities, broadened our citizens’ engagement with the humanities, or helped preserve and expand Americans’ access to important resources in the humanities. Medals are presented on behalf of the National Endowment for the Humanities, an independent federal agency that supports research and learning in history, literature, philosophy and other areas of the humanities by funding selected, peer-reviewed proposals from around the nation. Additional information about the National Endowment for the Humanities and its grant programs is available at: www.neh.gov. Watch the 2013 National Humanities Medals awards ceremony online.
