Congregations, Communities and Leadership Development

Case studies of 15 socially active Protestant congregations in the greater Philadelphia area yielded information on 2,044 church members who were involved in 172 local outreach ministries. This report presents the findings around five issues: how churches reach out to their communities, what faith looks like in faith-based social services, how faith-based social services incorporate a religious dimension, how people perceive religious meaning in faith-based social services, and what constitutes a church-based social ministry.
