Best Resources for Sabbaticals

Reinvigorate the Mind and Spirit

Calvin Institute of Christian Worship is an interdisciplinary study and ministry center that promotes the study of Christian worship and the renewal of worship in Christian faith communities. Explore the institute’s periodic training events and annual worship symposia as possible contributions to a sabbatical experience. Note that the institute works in close partnership with Calvin Theological Seminary (Grand Rapids, Mich.) to provide continuing education programs and credit that may help fill out a study plan.

Faith & Leadership is the online magazine of Leadership Education at Duke Divinity School (Durham, N.C.). Its purpose is to strengthen the practice of Christian leadership by providing access to transformative leaders, theological reflections, in-depth articles and stories and reading lists. Explore the Study Leave for Ministry Professionals program, which is designed to assist clergy to pursue a self-defined course of study, worship and prayer by providing a week’s access to the school’s resources, programs and faculty.

Resources for American Christianity is an archive site for programs funded by the Lilly Endowment. Among its holdings are articles and essays written by clergy who have benefited from Clergy Renewal Grants provided by Lilly funding.

The Louisville Institute oversees several grant programs that support thoughtful, reflective pastors and researchers through opportunities for sabbatical renewal and creative research.
