George Mason on Preparing the Pastors We Need

George Mason, author of Preparing the Pastors We Need: Reclaiming the Congregation's Role in Training Clergy, describes the unique impact of a congregation's participation in a pastoral residency program where graduates from seminary apprentice in ministry. He notes that such programs go far beyond simply adding an extra hand to the staffing of a congregation's programs. Indeed, he has found that they alter the laypeople's perspective and vision of ministry and their part in the formation of future ministers in particular.
