Training clergy the right way

Clergy preparation has fragmented into four independent disciplines: Bible, Church History, Systematic Theology and Practical Theology (the duties of ordained ministry). With this educational fragmentation, pastoral ministry has become identified with ministry duties, and is increasingly less connected to the other three. However, seminary students, faculty and the public are hungry for theological reflection and training that addresses the diversity of American society. The study guide, "The Aims & Purposes of Theological Education" by W. Clark Gilpin, leads participants through nine topical studies concerned with re-evaluating the content and method of ministry preparation. The study can also help pastors think about what takes up their time and whether its the best use of their ministry.
